As the daughter of a conservative Hindu priest in Nepal, Sita was skeptical about Jesus. When the pandemic hit, Sita’s family was deeply impacted. Her Young Life leaders learned about their struggle and delivered food and other essentials to their home. When Sita saw her leaders care for her family in this way, she realized the love of Jesus is real. Now, Sita is a Young Life leader, mentoring other girls and continuing to grow in her faith.
There are stories like this in every community where Young Life exists — from the barrios of Nicaragua to the mountains of Nepal. We’re sharing some of these stories with friends who, in addition to giving to their local ministry, may be interested in supporting our ministry.
A year ago, 16-year-old Minh walked through the streets of his small village in Vietnam. He hid his face, ashamed of the acne that scarred his skin. Later that evening, Minh was playing guitar at a local wedding, where he met a Young Life leader. They began talking and the leader invited Minh to Young Life camp, where he heard the story of Jesus healing the 10 lepers.
Minh thought, If Jesus cared for those 10 lepers, surely He also loves me. Now, Minh holds his head high as he shares his gift of music at Young Life club.
There are Young Life staff all over the world, inviting kids like Minh to come and hear about a God who loves them, just as they are. These leaders rely on generous donations from friends of Young Life who, in addition to supporting their local area or region, make ministry in these places possible. In Mirebalais, a commune in Haiti, many young people are lured into gangs and paid to do terrible things. Ricardo was one of these teenagers.
But a miracle happened when he was invited to Young Life camp. When Ricardo returned home from camp, people in his neighborhood didn’t recognize him. “Isn’t that the young man who carried guns and wreaked havoc in our community? What has happened to him?” Ricardo had heard the gospel at camp and had begun a relationship with Jesus — he was a new creation, completely transformed!
Young Life leaders around the world are pursuing teenagers just like Ricardo — building relationships with them and sharing the life-changing news of God’s grace and love. Will you consider making a gift to help our international leaders continue investing in the lives of teenagers? If you would like to learn more or make a gift today, thank you!
